Hi, I’m Courtney, a freelance journalist based in the Washington, D.C. area. I specialize in writing about global health and development, food and culture, and consumer health.
Before getting into journalism, I served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Dominican Republic from 2012 to 2015. I lived and worked in the southwestern part of the country, a major sugar cane-growing area.
Peace Corps service, a stint as a teaching assistant in Costa Rica, and a semester abroad during college taught me how to navigate foreign cultures and to be comfortable working on my own and as part of a team. I also learned how to get around on many forms of public transportation, from motorcycle taxis to buses piled high with people and packages.
In my free time, I love hiking, running with my dog, and listening to podcasts in Spanish.
